What modification is needed to make XFX nVidia GeForce 9500GT 1 GB DDR2 VGA/DVI/HDTV PCI-Express Video Card PV?

what modification is needed to make XFX nVidia GeForce 9500GT 1 GB DDR2 VGA/DVI/HDTV PCI-Express Video Card PVT95GZAFG fit into dell inspirion 530s. Im having a really hard time trying to find one that will fit and how to make it fit. I need to get a new graphics card so i can play cataclysm, new wow expansion. If any of you know a better card let me know!|||MSI Radeon HD5550

Board is half height. The packaging comes with the backpanel thats fits slim pcs.|||You need 2 "low profile" brackets one for the card which has the DVI and HDTV on the mother board (cant be changed) the other bracket for D-Sub port.(placed in the slot next to the card) I'm surprised the XFX doesn't offer a low profile bracket. You might want to get in touch with XFX to see if they have one..but if you look at this card you can see the brackets needed...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

You also might want to check the XFX card height...though it looks like a low profile it may not be low enough.|||I just looked this computer up. From what I can see it's a very THIN case. If you can I would get a new case and transfer everything over. I do know that some companies make motherboards that differ from the "standard" ATX motherboards so it might not fit without changing up the posts but I'm sure that would be easier than trying to make a video card fit in a case that thin.|||This is why you don't buy slimline computers. The real serious problem is that your power supply won't power any cards with a decent level of performance. In addition, the air flow in those slim cases is almost non-existent so heat becomes a problem as well. You have a 330W power supply and that is quite limited in what it can control. You're more or less limited to a Radeon HD 4550. Hopefully, you can find one that is low-profile.|||hi nick

after looking at the slimline inspiron 530 ( http://www.dell.com/us/en/dfh/desktops/i… ) ... it looks alot like the acer aspire x3200 which is also slimline... and the main problem with small form factor cases is theres not much space for upgrades especially graphic cards

however manufactuers understand this and low profile cards are whats needed... these are specificly designed for such cases and the "SPARKLE SP95GT512D2L-HP GeForce 9500 GT" is a ideal choice of card... and allthough the image shows the full size bracket you will also receive a "low profile" bracket kit which makes the bracket two thirds of the size and this will then fit ok in your slimline case

in terms of modifications you only need to remove the standard bracket ... use a small pair of pliers and remove the 4 x small bolts that hold the large bracket in place and then the vga part of the card will then fit in a second low profile bracket... this will then fit in two slots on your case... so the dvi and tv-out will be on the bottom low profile bracket and the vga(d-sub) output will be on the second bracket ...

installation should take around 10 minutes and modifications around the same so it shouldnt take more than 30 minutes from start to finish

and the geforce 9500gt does not require additional power which is good.. simply fit the card and then install the drivers.... note: most pc,s will automatically detect a pci-express card and change the bios accordinally however some systems may require you to change the video settings in the bios... if this is the case go to "intergrated peripherals" and change from onboard video to pci-express ( or pci ).... also change the setting "init display first"( sometimes found in advanced chipset features) and change this also to pci-express.... this lets the bios know what video device to use... however not all bios version have this setting.... remember to "save and exit set up" when finished to save the changes to the cmos ... then you pc will restart when saving the changes

allthough low profile cards tend to be the lower end of the scale there are some powerful mid range cards avalible in low profile... and these include the following :

1) SPARKLE NVIDIA GTS 250 512MB DDR3 PCIE DVI/HDMI LOW PROFILE ( http://www.outo.co.uk/epages/es116561.sf… ) ... very powerful card for such a small card.... this has a 256bit memory interface and a 2200mhz memory clock... extremely good card

2) 9800GT 1GB DDR3 SLI LOW PROFILE HDMI/DVI ( http://www.techbox.co.uk/products.asp?pa… ) another powerful card with a 256bit memory interface ....

both these cards will run "cataclyms" on high detail.... and as long as your pc has a 450w or more psu then you will be fine.... or you could also upgrade your psu...hopefully the inspiron 530 will support a standard atx psu.... and a 450w psu can be snapped up for under £25 ( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component… )

i hope this helps nick, however any problems let me know

good luck mate !
